Kooba Roni, Devin, & Jacinda - Latest Arrivals

Meet our new friends: Roni, Devin & Jacinda, of the Kooba family!
The Kooba Roni Asymmetrical Pleat Hobo offers a chic yet somewhat different look from conventional slouchy hobos. You’ll love the generous size, drape, & comfortable carry, as well as the large, functional exterior zipped pocket.
Devin is a rounded duffel, with two accessible front pockets, & an eye-catching bow detail that gives the bag a fun, feminine kick. This shoulder bag is surprisingly lightweight, given its roominess & quality leather.
Reflecting an equestrian style, Jacinda’s construction reminds one of saddle belts. It's not all about looks, though; the side pockets -- where you can quickly stash your mobile & other necessities -- make this practical, too.
Each design comes in a few colours. Whether in deeply rich or sunlit bright shades, they all feel as good as they look & are extremely complementary to any wardrobe.
P.S. Kooba Carly in Liquid Black is also back in stock!

Happy Father's Day (15 Jun 2008)

Happy pre-Father's Day!
Father's Day is really an easy holiday to have success -- dad always seems to be happy with just about anything you give him! This year, why not give a gift that doesn’t look like everything he already owns? Skip the safe white shirt (not that we don’t have those!), come on by the stores for stuff that are a bit more imaginative & still tasteful.
Happy Father’s Day to all who are fathers :)

Fragment Design (Hiroshi Fujiwara) x Kangol 504 Collaboration Cap

With a name said to derive from silK/Knit + ANGora + woOL, Kangol headwear has a legendary heritage dating back to 1938 England. Since then, it’s crowned numerous famous heads including the Beatles, Princess Diana, hip hop legends, Madonna, Brad Pitt, & sports greats. Of late, whether it’s the influence from celebrities, the universal style, or simply the kangaroo logo, men, women, the young & the old can’t seem to get enough of Kangol. Ever the innovator, Kangol has been leading the fashion pack back to hat-wearing as an expression of personal style, confidence, & originality.
2008 is Kangol's 70th year & the iconic 504 (Kangol’s most popular model created circa 1954) received a timely remix from none other than Hiroshi Fujiwara (aka Fragment Design), the revered godfather of Japanese (& international) street-style.
The special 504 features a contrast-colour peak, the logo of both brands, & a tropic yarn knit that permits breathability in warm weather. Fans everywhere have gobbled up pre-sale orders -- don’t miss this tough find!
Sidenote: HF himself has been wearing Kangol for over two decades & is rarely seen without his trademark headgear. The classic ivy cap even became part of the get-up of the collectible vinyl toy (designed & produced by Chinese tastemakers Jukai & adFunture) made in HF's likeness.

United Nude 'Mono Jane Hi' Wedge Peep-Toes

Want shoes that no one else is likely to have? Here’s one that you won’t see many people in your neighborhood walking around in. The Mono Jane Hi from United Nude fuses our favourite features: peep-toe, wedge heel, & heel height! The combination of moulded EVA*, leather lining & rubber sole construction provides the perfect balance of lightness, comfort & flexibility. So much so, United Nude calls this their ‘most comfortable style of the season.’
Total heel height is 3½”, but what’s unique is the ½” hidden platform inside. (No one’ll be able to tell!)
A contrast leather strap with Velcro fastening allows a comfortable fit & smooth line across the foot, too.
*Although sometimes more popularly known as ‘EVA rubber’, there is actually no rubber in EVA. An elastomeric material, EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate) is soft, pliable, yet sturdy. It also possesses good clarity, gloss, barrier properties, stress-crack resistance, UV radiation resistance, & -- unlike rubber -- little or no odor. EVA provides superb cushioning in shoes & sport goods. Being bisphenol-a free & non-toxic, it’s also widely used in baby teethers & toys. Hot stick glues, used for arts & crafts activities, are made of EVA. EVA also happens to be what Crocs use in their signature shoes.

Tretorn STRAND ABORRE & STRAND SMöR Slip On Sneakers

Classic slip-ons get a modern new twist in these Tretorn Strand sneakers.
Celebrated on the weekend closest to 24 Jun, Midsummer marks the longest day of the year in Sweden, where the sun never seems to set & many Swedes retreat to the countryside to enjoy the outdoors. The relaxed fun & vitality of spirit this holiday signifies formed the inspiration behind the Strand sneakers. (Strand is the Swedish word for ‘beach’.)
Utilitarian yet stylish, these shoes do away with laces & up the whimsy with bold graphics on the left foot -- a perch, an artichoke, etc. The right side is simply left blank.
Canvas upper provides comfortable durability, too.
117 years old this year, Tretorn is on the up again lately & these unique, unfettered Strands are certainly helping to fuel the brand’s exciting rerising.

Kate Spade Wallets -- Classic Noel Neda, Classic Noel Posey, & Vachetta Clinton Street Taryn

While an accessories editor at Mademoiselle Magazine, Kate Noel Brosnahan noticed a void in the handbag market & decided she’d fill it. In 1993, with the help of then-boyfriend, now-husband Andy Spade, Kate kicked off her venture with 6 handbag prototypes that emphasised playful chic. The company was named Kate Spade -- Andy’s idea, even though he hadn’t yet proposed. (That would happen a few years hence.) The night before an accessories trade show, Kate was inspired to unpick all the Kate Spade labels sewn inside the bags & reattach them outside -- thus the signature Kate Spade look was born.
Today, that famous label graces not only bags but also wallets, stationery, shoes, eyewear, beauty products, homewares, & more.
Clean-looking, well put together, with a nod to the classics & an element of surprise, you’ll adore these useful & irresistibly optimistic wallets by Kate Spade.

ACNE JEANS x TRETORN Collaboration Sneakers

Celebrate outdoor fun & relaxed entertaining in these cool kicks! Swede superstar brands Acne Jeans & Tretorn have teamed up to create 2 vintage styles of sneaker -- a classic high-top & a low-top called the ‘Acne Jeans Stroll Mid Canvas’ & ‘Acne Jeans Stroll Low Canvas’ respectively. The shoes have their starting point in a classic Tretorn sneaker worn by tennis legend Björn Borg back in the ’70s. Additional inspiration was drawn unexpectedly from an old Chinese military sneaker found in a New York vintage store. Classic Oxford shirt material that lines the interior of the shoes makes further fine example of the unmistakable Scandinavian attention to detail. Definitely worth getting yourself a pair!

Acne Jeans: In 1997 ACNE (aka “Ambition to Create Novel Expressions”) a Stockholm design firm made 100 pairs of jeans as presents for clients & friends (that’s generous!). A year later, in response to retail demand & public buzz, Acne Jeans was born. Who’d have thought denim with a pimply name would fly off the shelves? But that’s exactly what happened, & today Acne Jeans’ minimalistic yet edgy frocks for men & women are all the rage on the fashion scene.

Tretorn: To tennis aficionados in Europe, Tretorn is practically a continental treasure. Founded by Henry Dunker in Sweden in 1891 & a subsidiary of Puma since 2001, this athletic goods company established itself worldwide with timeless footwear & tennis balls. For the past 2-3 years, Tretorn has been resurging with interesting sneaker designs & creative interbrand collaborations.

United Nude Eamz 'X' Strap & Multi-Strap Sandals

United Nude’s Eamz collection gets a reinvention. In these latest models -- the mirror/metallic ‘X’ strap sandals & the multi-strap sandals -- the unique Eamz heel offers a striking counterpoint to the classic design of traditional sandals.
The arty treatment produces heels that aren’t really there at all, & sandals that’re comfy, fun & definitely a conversation starter.
The ‘imaginary heel’ also acts as a cushion in your step. The idea takes just a little getting used to, but a pair of UN Eamz is refreshingly easy on your back & knees!

YMC (You Must Create) Classic Style Plimsole

YMC plimsoles for old-skool sneaker fun!
Appreciated as a forward-thinking, leftfield cult label since its formation in London in 1995, YMC (a.k.a. You Must Create) got its name from a quote by the great industrial design pioneer Raymond Loewy: “You must create your own style.” This pretty much sums up the philosophy behind YMC. Founders Jimmy Collins & Fraser Moss stand out for their independent approach & preference for developing their own vision rather than following seasonal trends. The influence of ’40s - ’70s youth culture is strong in YMC designs. This is always modernised with a dash of dandy & a sprinkle of rockstar, producing retro-futurist menswear that won Collins & Moss the British Streetstyle Designers of the Year award in 1999. In recent years YMC has added depth to its range with footwear & women’s line.
Plimsoles have made a massive come back in the fashion stakes -- one of this season’s must-haves! -- & these YMCs sure hark back to the ones everyone had at school.
They would
go well under your skinny jeans, work with a lot of other things you'd own, & aren’t Converses (!). Everybody loves them.
The extra wide sole & high toe cap give these plimsoles a retro look.
Patent or gingham canvas. Now in store.

United Nude 'Eamz' Pumps

Co-founded by Rem D. Koolhaas (a nephew of maestro architect Rem Koolhaas) & 7th generation English shoemaker Galahad JD Clark (whose family owns Clark Shoes), iconic brand United Nude is neither an architecture practice nor a shoe company, but a design firm that elevates the shoe to an art form -- where design, architecture and abstraction meet footwear.
Apparently inspired by furniture, oranges, doggies, flight, & even origami, United Nude creations are always highly fashionable & sublime.
In the case of these ‘Eamz’ pumps, the heel is a piece of architecture in itself, an ode to the Charles & Ray ‘Eames’ chair. They may look a little gravity-defying, but these shoes are surprisingly more comfy than conventional high heels, & a whole lot more interesting, innovative, & fun too!
