While an accessories editor at Mademoiselle Magazine, Kate Noel Brosnahan noticed a void in the handbag market & decided she’d fill it. In 1993, with the help of then-boyfriend, now-husband Andy Spade, Kate kicked off her venture with 6 handbag prototypes that emphasised playful chic. The company was named Kate Spade -- Andy’s idea, even though he hadn’t yet proposed. (That would happen a few years hence.)
